How to watch Telegram videos on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Straight answer: Tevegram is not available on Fire TV for now. The Fire TV Stick runs Fire OS, a version of Android without the Play Store, and the app is not published on the Amazon Appstore yet. If your TV runs on a Fire TV Stick, the working solution today is a Google TV stick on another HDMI port.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Plug a Google TV stick into a free HDMI port. A Chromecast with Google TV (about $30 for HD, $50 for 4K) or a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick lives happily next to your Fire TV Stick. Connect it to Wi-Fi and select its HDMI input when you want Telegram; switch back to the Fire TV input for everything else.

  2. Install Tevegram from the stick's Play Store. Search for "Tevegram: Telegram for TV" in the Play Store of the new stick, then Install.

  3. Connect your Telegram account. A QR code appears on the sign-in screen. On your phone, open Telegram, then Settings, Devices, Link Desktop Device, and scan it. No password to type with the remote.

Good to know on this device

Why not on Fire TV?

Fire OS does not include the Google Play Store, and Tevegram relies on Google Play for installation, updates and Premium purchases. Publishing on the Amazon Appstore is a separate distribution with its own billing system; it is not available for now.

Can I sideload the app on Fire TV?

We do not distribute an APK outside the Play Store, and a sideloaded copy could not make or restore Premium purchases anyway. Rather than an unsupported setup that breaks at the first update, we recommend the Google TV stick.

Frequently asked questions

Will Tevegram come to the Amazon Appstore?

Not for now. If that changes, this page will be updated first, and the Play Store listing will say so.

Can I mirror my phone to the Fire TV Stick instead?

Yes: Fire TV supports screen mirroring from Android phones (Display Mirroring). It works for an occasional video, with the usual limits: the phone stays busy, quality depends on Wi-Fi, and there is no library and no resume.
